Bryson Wilde, investigator for hire, lives in an edgy world where the dames are dangerous, cigarettes dangle from ruby-red lips, and the nights are hotter than whiskey-soaked jazz. In R. J. Jagger's riveting noir thriller A Way with Murder, Wilde finds himself entangled in two deadly assignments, one for a young, raven-haired attorney on the run after visiting an archeological site in Mexico, and the other for a pretty, little doll-face, who is too mysterious to trust and too hypnotic to resist. As Wilde negotiates the dangerous undercurrents of his treacherous new cases, he soon discovers that not only are the two on a collision course with each other, but that no one is safe when someone who has such a way with murder is around....
This audiobook is a love song to the hard-boiled novels of the '50s, and author R. J. Jagger's talent recalls the early works of Scott Turow and Lisa Scottoline.

In 1952 in Denver, Secret St. Rain enters the office of private investigator Bryson Wilde unsure whether she is in trouble as she saw a woman fall to her death when someone dangling her out of a window let go. Secret says she could not see the man as he was in the dark but he could see her as she was near a streetlight. She wants him to trap the killer of Charley-Anna Blackridge before he might come after her.In his other case Colder and Jones lawyer London Marshall tells Bryson she is in trouble because of what she saw on her most recent annual visit to the Mexican Pyramids. She climbed through an opening and found a casket that contained a shocker inside of it. Frightened she also heard breathing nearby as London fled the scene but fears her adversary saw her and will come for her.
The latest Bryson Wilde private investigative thriller (see Lawyer Trap) is a great historical noir that captures the essence of the 1950s hardboiled detective. Bryson is superb as he has away with female clients who get him in trouble and he, in turn, gets his assistant Alabama in trouble. Readers will appreciate this Wilde historical as Bryson works two femme fatale (even in a baseball cap) cases.

A Way with Murder A Novel of Crime (Audible Audio Edition) R J Jagger Kevin Stillwell Audible Studios Books Reviews
This was a well-written historical mystery set in the 1950s. If you are a fan of hardboiled, Gold Medal type mysteries of that era, then you will enjoy this novel. However, there are a few phrases, such as someone saying "on the down-low" which seem too contemporary and takes you out of the timing of the piece. Otherwise, I enjoyed it and I wish the author luck on future such novels.
Jagger's done it again! This Bryson Wilde thriller is a tightly written page-turner that stands among the best of Jagger's work. From beginning to end, the story moves at a rapid pace. Wilde is a 50's era PI that works out of a small office with his sexy assistant Alabama. Wilde also plays drums at a steamy jazz club. Of course, Wilde chases after a serial killer and there is nonstop action. Like all of Jagger's books, this one follows several interconnected stories including Wilde's detective work for the mysterious woman named Secret, a young reporter who is investigating the strange murders of women in red dresses, and a bad dude who tangled with bikers and is paid to kidnap young women. The formula is similar to that in Jagger's other work, but it works and works well.
If you enjoy the Nick Teffinger series, read this. It's even better.
